 Every Egyptian dynasty features Ibizan like dogs in their artwork
- 8th century Phoenician sailors brought the Egyptian hounds to the Balearic Islands. Those islands include the Isle of Ibiza for which the breed was named. The hound remained true to type on the island.
- Ancient Spanish Cave paintings depict Ibizan type sighthounds. Remember the the Isle of Ibiza is off the coast of Spain. Some of these distinctly Spanish lines have been imported into America.

Hannibal & Cetera
|
England has developed their own very distinctive type, having some very influential kennels. Their lines have had the most impact on the breed in America.
- In 1956 Hannibal & Cetera were imported into the U.S from the Isle of Ibiza by Colonel & Mrs. Sloane. Ironically, the breeders in America refer to their dogs as being from English or Spanish lines, not from Ibiza lines.
- In 1958, Egypt imported several Ibizan Hounds to reintroduce the breed back into it’s ancestral home.
* 1979 The breed was recognized by AKC.
